Assisteens

Assisteens encourage and provide volunteer opportunities for today's teens. Membership can help develop a sense of community responsibility, self-reliance, personal responsibility, poise, public speaking and leadership skills. Assistance League founder, Anne Banning, always felt that it was fine to serve youth, but better to let youth serve.
Assisteens membership is open to girls and boys in grades 8 to 12. They are members of both local and national Assistance League.
Assisteens make Bunny Baskets for children living at the YWCA Women’s Shelter and conduct Valentines craft parties for the children at the Road Home Homeless Shelter. Embarking on a new endeavor this year, they will assemble rolling suitcases of household supplies such as soap, detergent, personal hygiene items, towels, blankets and some non-perishable food items for 18 year olds that have just been released from foster care and are on their own. Assisteens also help other Assistance League programs such as Operation School Bell and they volunteer at Thrift on 33rd sorting donations or helping customers.
Assisteens meet once a month and pay annual dues of $25.00. Leadership is a combination of Assisteens members, an Assistance League Board member and committee and interested parents. Fulfilling school community service requirements, making new friends and laughing a lot is just part of the Assisteens experience.
Community Service + Friends + Fun = Assisteens
