Dorothy Anderson of American Express Honored as Consociates 2008 Woman of Distinction
On Saturday, May 3, 2008, Dorothy Anderson was honored for her community work throughout the Salt Lake Valley at the 15th Annual Consociates Auxiliary Women of Distinction Luncheon and Fundraiser, held at Hidden Valley Country Club.
Over 100 guests applauded Ms. Anderson as she recognized the "women of distinction" in her own family--women who innately understood the need to help others less fortunate and who taught and led by example. Ms. Anderson also recognized Assistance League members as women of distinction for their ongoing contributions to the Salt Lake community. She concluded her speech by stating a long-held spiritual belief: "Whatever I have done or whatever I will do, God gets the glory." Consociates Chairman Karen Johnson presented Ms. Anderson with a crystal vase on a mirrored engraved pedestal, donated by O.C. Tanner.
Dorothy Anderson has worked for American Express for over 32 years. As a representative of American Express, she serves on many boards including Assistance League of Salt Lake City's Advisory Board. Ms. Anderson is responsible for managing American Express' Philanthropic Program for Salt Lake City and the State of Utah and for all community relations work as well as special events and activities.
Much-honored for her civic work, Ms. Anderson has also received the National Conference for Community and Justice Humanitarian Award, the Utah Philanthropy Corporate Spirit of Giving Award, the United Methodist Women's Missions Award and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Rosa Parks Award.
Consociates members pay annual dues and attend regular and work meetings. No minimum service hours are required. Consociates sponsors one major fundraising event each year, the Women of Distinction Luncheon, honoring Utah women who have contributed to their community in some distinctive way.
